The writing process

"The writing process mirrors the way proficient writers write" It is important for students to develop their writing skills as well as reading to develop critical thinking and prepare them for the future.(International Literacy association, "Implementing the Writing Process - ReadWriteThink")

Stage I: Prewriting - Choose a topic, consider the purpose, identify the genre, gather ideas, organize ideas.Stage II: Drafting - Rough draft, revising, editing, emphasize ideas.Stage III: Revising - Reread the draft, revising group, peer editing, conference with teacher.Stage IV Editing - Proofread, editing center, correct mistakes, conference with the teacher.Stage V: Publishing - Format the composition, make the final copy, share with appropriate audience.(Tompkins, 2006, p. 48)
