The use of Information and Communication Technology in the Schools of Primary and Secondary Education in Portugal

In 2012, 97% of the population between 10 and 15 years old have used the internet to find information for school assignments.98% of the population in that group age used computer, 95% had access to internet and 93% used mobile phones. At this age group, the household is the main place of use of computers and also for the Internet, 94% and 90%, respectively. The school was the place of use for 69% of computer users and 65% of Internet users.

5 years since the launch of the program: - Almost 1.4 million laptops were delivered via e-School program.- 600 000 Magellan (low cost laptop computer mounted in Portugal) were distributed within the e-Escolinhas. - 100% of schools of 2. º and 3. º cycles were connected to broadband Internet.

    This Glog presents the progress achieved since 2001 in the implementation of information and communication technology in primary and secondary schools in Portugal, particularly since 2007 after the official release of the Technological Plan for Education by president José Socrates.
