Characters

Mara Dyer-Mara is a 16 year old girl who wakes up in a hospital after a building collapses on her, leaving her friends dead. She suffers from PTSD and has multiple hallucinations and nightmares throughout the book. She ends up moving to a new town with her family and is enrolled in a boarding school. Noah Shaw-Noah is one of the students Mara first meets in the bording school and becomes a very important character in the book. He is the exact opposite of Mara in every way, he's british, popular, and untouchable Jude Lowe-Jude is Mara's ex-boyfriend who dies in the asylum when it collapsed. Mara has hallucinations of him and at the end of the book it causes a lot of trouble for her. Daniel Dyer-Daniel is Mara's oldest brother and he is a very important role in her life. He often covers for her and helps her seem sane to their controlling mother. Daniel is very musical and is the perfect child of the family.

Summary

The author uses a lot of foreshadowing and symbolism in the book.Forshadowing- All of Mara's hallucinations are hints that bad things are going to happen. Mara just a walking time bomb of bad luck. Ex: The book begins with a scene where Mara is with her friends and playing with a ouija board. Her friend, Rachel, asked how she would die and the board responded with M-A-R-A. Six months later Rachel and the other girl, Claire, were dead along with JudeSymbolism- There are a lot of sterio-typical death symbolisms and things that hint toward Maras paranormal abilityEx. A Murder of crows appeared when she was at her friends funeral and they seem to follow her through the book.

Mara Dyer is a 16 year old girl who is moved to Florida after a freak accident that killed her friends. She is soon diagnosed with PTSD and cant help the hallutions she sees almost everyday. She meet a strange boy named Noah that is her total opposite and they start learning more about the deaths that follow Mara. Things start to go wrong when her younger brother Joseph gets kidnapped and all of the hints lead to the accused murderer that Mara's father is defending in court.
