The Three Little Pigs

"Three Little Wolves"1936-What is the recurring theme?-What are the cultural values--the ideas and beliefs--represented in the story?--Would you consider this a fractured tale? Why or why not?

"The True Story of the Three Little Pigs"

Are there TWO SIDES to every story?

Fractured FairyTaleFractured fairy tales are different versions or different view points of original fairy tales. The word "fracture" means to break something. Using the same patterns and structures as the original fairly tale, one piece on the fairy tale story map is "broken" and changed which causes a ripple effect within the story.

One stylistic element of traditional literature is the rule of three. In many traditional works, including folk tales, if an event happens once, it will happen two more times. For example, a king might test his daughters three times to find out who is loyal to him. In literature, the function of the rule of three is to build suspense and anticipation for what happens next. Also, look for the small differences each time the event occurs.
