The Supremes

Women's groups in the sixties helped break racial barriers and gender discrimination in the music industry and other places. The Supremes had a really big effect on this time period. The Supremes time period was 1959-1977. The Supremes helped break down racial barriers with Rock and Roll songs underpinned by R&B stylings.

The Supremes

As the group became more popular both domestically and abroad, becoming one of the first black musical acts to appear regularly on television programs such as "Hullabaloo," "The Hollywood Palace," "The Della Reese Show," and the most popular "Th Ed Sullivan Show," on which they made seventeen appearances. That had a big effect on racial barriers, it broke down many of the barriers to make it possible for other groups to achieve those things.
