[2014] Shah Nihar: The Sun - The Fiery Center Of Our Solar System

The Fiery Center of our Solar System!

Well, "Hot" facts !

Cool Facts

One Big Family! The sun is orbited by eight planets, at least five dwarf planets, tens of thousands of asteroids, and hundreds of thousands to three trillion comets and icy bodies.

On March 26 2014, a blob of plasma broke off from the sun. This extreme ultraviolet picture shows this event in amazing detail.

The sun is 149.6 MILLION kilometers away from Earth. This distance is called an Astronomical Unit (AU)

A 20 pound bookbag on Earth would weigh 560 pounds on the sun's surface!

It takes light 8 minutes and 19 seconds to reach Earth from the sun

The sun accounts for 99.86% of the total mass of our solar system!

75% of the sun is made of hydrogen, the rest is mainly helium with about 1.7% being heavier elements like carbon, neon, iron and oxygen.

The sun has four layers, the photosphere, convective zone, radiative zone, and core.

Sometimes, there is a huge burst of radiation due to the sun's magnetic activity called solar flares. It is so strong that it can disrupt communication and GPS systems on earth.

The sun is a 4.7 billion year old G-type main sequence star.

Well done, Nihar! Love the visual elements and the puns as well as your use of the different media. Would you please include your sources- or at least a link to your list of sources on a google doc that is marked public? Where did you find the 10 facts video- it was pretty cool. Can you "chop" it to be shorter?
