[2015] Cherish Brown: The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde

Elizabeth Miller, Cherish, and Cam Brown

"But the words were hardly uttered, before the smile was struck out of his face and succeeded by an expressionof such abject terror and despair, as froze the very blood of the two gentlemen below. They saw it but for a glimpse for the window was instantly thrust down; but that glimpse had been sufficient, and they turned and left the court without a word." Pg. 37 Par. 5.

"It was already bad enough when the name was but a name of which he could learn no more. It was worse when it began to be clothed apon with destisable attributes; and out of the shifting, insubstantial mists that have so long baffled his eye, there leaped up the sudden, definite presentment of a fiend."

"And now to settle remains. Will you be wise? Will you be guided? Will you suffer me to take this glass in my hand...or has the greed of curiosity to much to command of you?" Pg.57 Par.7

"Man is not truly one, but truly two." Pg.61 Par. 1"Think before you answer, for it shall be done as you decide. As you decide, you shall be left as you were before, and neither richer nor wiser, unless the sense of service rendered to a man in mortal distress may be counted as a kind of riches of the soul. Or, if you shall so prefer to choose, a new province of knowledge and new avenues to fame and power shall be laid open to you, here, in this room, upon the instant; and your sight shall be blasted by a prodigy to stagger the unbelief of Satan"." (9.28)

The strange case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is a story about the duality of human nature. Dr. Jekyll fells we all have a battle between good and evil within us. This is true. Only, Dr. Jekyll released his inner evil in the form of a person, I.e. Mr. Hyde. Dr. Jekyll was a nice, friendly person, who loved to do science experiments in his lab. Mr. Hyde was a short, hideous man, who enjoyed doing evil. This is the duality of Dr. Jekyll. His good side, versus his evil one.
