ANZAC Biscuits are a traditional Biscuit that the Anzacs used to eat instead of bread. The Anzac soldiers also used to have Anzac Biscuits because they lasted a long time. The soldiers also made porridge with the biscuits, because they are sweet.

But they had to be careful because there was no refrigerated facilities, so any food sent had to edible after periods in excess of two months. A woman came up with the answer, a biscuit with all the nutritional values that had a long shelf- life.

Why ?

During World War 1 and 2 the wives, mothers and girlfriends were concerned because the nutritional value of food being supplied to their men at War wasn’t enough. But there was a problem because any food that was sent to the men had to be carried in the ships of the merchant navy.


Steps: step 1 Sift the flour into a bowl. Add the sugar, rolled oats and coconut. step 2 Melt the butter in a sausepan and add the golden syrip and water. step 3 Stir the Bicarbonate of soda into the liquid mixture. step 3 Add the liquid into the dry ingrediants and mix thoroughly. step 4 Place walnut sized balls of mixture on a greased tray and bake at 175c for 15 to 20 minutes. step 6 Biscuits will harden when cool.
