Invented by Robert Fulton

-Carries goods across rivers; Mississippi, Alabama, Apalachicola, etc.- Came into use after Revolutionary WarHow Does It Work?-Water is heated until the liquid becomes invisible- When water becomes steam it increases in volume 1,600 times- this enormous transformation in volume can be harnessed to operate mechanical devices
