The Son of Neptune

The climax of this book is when Percy and his friends have finally found death and are trying to free him. However, it is not as easy as it looks. In order to free Thantaos from the chains, someone else must sacrifice their life for him. Will Thantaos be freed and will someone die?

Plot SummaryPercy wakes up in the middle of nowhere and does not remember anything about his past, but one name keeps coming back to him--Annabeth. With the help of a mysterious old woman, Percy finds Camp Jupiter. While he is there he is given a quest, along with Frank and Hazel. Together they must unleash the god of death, Thantaos. However, first they have to find him and all they know is he is somewhere in Alaska. Along the way, the three new friends meet many other monsters and gods and even find themselves in a few pickles. Can Percy and his friends find Thantaos and unleash death before time runs out?

SettingsThis book takes place at the Roman camp-Camp Jupiter. Later the characters travel to Alaska to unleash Thantaos-the god of death.

CharactersThe main characters in this book are Percy Jackson, Frank Zhang, and Hazel Levesque. Percy Jackson is a son of Poseidon and has lost his memory. Frank Zhang's life depends on a stick of wood, which he thinks is ridiculous. He is a child of Mars, or the war gods, but he is unfortunately very clumsy and very un-war like. He is determined to prove himself worthy of his heritage, and he must learn to use the "family gift.” Hazel Levesque is supposed to be dead. Luckily, her half-brother, Nico de Angelo rescued her from death and has given her another shot at life. However, her prior life before she died continues to haunt her.

"Every hero has a fatal flaw."-Mars

As true in all Percy Jackson books, there are several main problems running throughout the book. First, because Percy has lost his memory, he cannot remember anything about himself or where he came from. Throughout the story, Percy must somehow discover his memories and unlock his past. However, while battling with his memory loss, Percy is also sent on a quest with his new friends to free death. Thantaos, the god of death, is chained up which means nobody can die. Is this a good thing or a bad thing? Indeed, Percy and his friends cannot die on their quest which seems great! However, the monsters they have to fight cannot die either. Percy, Frank, and Hazel must somehow free death and restore order.
