The Similarities of E Trade and State Farm Commercials

E*Trade Baby

VALUE

TARGET AUDIENCE

METHOD

You can call them anytime of the day- "Savings. Even at 3 a.m." You can get good deals no matter what your status is- married, single, student, etc. The State Farm person wears a red shirt which is the main color of their logo. His office also shows a lot of red colored items.

The humor in this ad consists of a baby talking as an adult about insurance. The fact that is used explains that people(investors) like us lose tens of thousands of dollars on our 401k's due to hidden fees. Meanwhile, E*Trade has none of those hidden costs and offers low cost investments. The baby has the character appeal since people always find kids, especially babies, to be cute so the audience will be captivated by the ad.

Humor is used when the wife thinks the husband is cheating on her when he is talking on the phone at 3 a.m. Fact is used when they say you could call them and get insurance savings, even at 3 a.m. Another example of humor is when the wife asked the State Farm person, "What are you wearing, Jake from State Farm?" She was assuming he was a woman and a hideous one at that.

When you hear investment facts and what the company has to offer -"Less for Us/More for You", the possibility of someone buying the product increases. Adding a talking baby helps make the commercial stick to your mind because of its humor.

People want to relax every so often so they watch the TV, mobile devices, etc. and one way to catch their attention is by humor. It is humorous to watch the wife trying to interrogate the husband and then the State Farm agent whom she mistakes for a woman.
