The Secret of the Ooze: Cornstarch Physics

Cornstarch and water mixed creates a syrupy goo that contains unusual properties.

Particles crowd against one another, restricting the fluid flow, and therefore causing the solution to thicken.

An aluminum rod was propelled into the solution by Waitukaitis and Jaeger.

This "oobleck" flows like a liquid in gentle conditions, but hardens when shock forces take over.

Unlike ordinary fluids, this material's properties alter under pressure.
