The Scientific Revolution


The Scientific Revolution was a time of thinking of the known natural world in new ways. Scientists of this period recorded their careful observations and possessed a willingness to question accepted beliefs.

In 1514, Copernicus had fjnished outlining his heliocentric theory, meaning the Sun is in the center of the universe. People at this time believed in the geocentric theory, where the Earth is in the center. Finally in 1543, he finally revealed his theory to the pope, cautious to not anger him or the Church.

Johannes Kepler

Kepler was a mathematician who concluded mathematical laws that govern planetary motion. He discovered that planets orbit in an ellipse

Galileo Galilei

Galileo was an Italian scientist was confirmed Copernicus' heliocentric theory. He studied Jupiters moons and their orbits through his telescope. He was placed on trial in 1633 and forced to recant his statements of the heliocentric theory. He was still put under house arrest.

Sir Isaac Newton

English physicist and mathematician who developed the 3 laws of motion and the law of gravity.
