The Rwandan Genocide

Stage 1: ClassificationThe Hutus are stockier and darker-skinned while the Tutsis are leaner and lighter-skinned. Their appearances are still too similar to tell apart. When the Belgiums were in power they gave identity cards and during the genocide these cards were used to identify who was Hutu and who was Tustsi.

Introduction:In Rwanda there are two groups, the Hutus and the Tutsis, and they have been in conflict prior to the genocide. This time, the Hutus were in power and planned to wipe out the.Tutsis.

Stage 3: DehumanizationThe Tustsis were symbolized as cockroaches.

Stage 4: OrganizationThe Rwandan government hired and funded the Interahamwe and the Impuzamugambi. These two groups were militias and were responsible for many of the deaths of Tutsis.

Stage 5: PolarizationBoth the president and the prime minister of Rwanda were Hutu moderates. They were killed by other members of the Hutu government and the acts were blamed on the Hutut rebels

Stage 6: PreparationOver 550 00 machetes wer stockpiled and hidden

Stage 7: ExterminationIn this stage the killings begin an at the end of all of this approximately 800 000 Tutsis were killed.

Stage 8: DenialAfter the genocide the government simply blammed it all on the two militias they hired, the Intherahamwe and the Impuzamugambi
