The protolith is subjected to heat and extreme pressure causing intense physical and chemical change.Metamorphic rocks make up a large part of the Earth's crust.
Igneous Rock
The
Rock
Cycle
Igneous rocks are formed when molten rock cools and solidifies, with or without crystallization, either below the surface as intrusive rocks or on the surface as extrusive rocks.
Metamorphic Rock
Magma
Magma is the term used to describe molten material within the Earth; in simple terms molten rock. But the molten rock usually contains some suspended crystals or dissolved gases. Igneous rocks form through the crystallization of magma. There is a considerable range of melting temperatures for different compositions of magma.
Sedimentary Rock
Sedimentary rock is one of the three main rock groups and is formed in four main ways, those are by the deposition of the weathered remains of other rocks, by the accumulation and the consolidation of sediments, another is by the deposition of the results of biogenic activity, and also by precipitation from solution.
