The Rock Cycle Introduction'Unit 4

Igneous rocks are made from magma or lava that cools above or below the Earth's surface.

Sedimentary rocks are formed by sediment such as dead plants and animals that are deposited over time, usually as layers at the bottom of lakes and oceans.

Metamorphic rocks can be formed by pressure deep under the Earth's surface, from the extreme heat caused by magma, or by the intense collisions and friction of tectonic plates.

Did you know rocks and minerals can be worth thousands of dollars or more?

Did you know that Idaho is known as the Gem State for its abundance of different rocks and minerals?
