The Roaring Twenties

PEOPLE OF THE 20's

INVENTIONS:

The men of the 20's:-many were gangsters and earned quick money by selling alcohol. Ex. Al Capone. -wore black suits and hats

The women of the 20s:- short hair- make-up - loose, non-figured dresses -dresses showed knee- partied, smoked and drank

The 20's was a time for new techology, including:- radios - cartoons (first was "Plane Crazy" with MickeyMouse)- automobile -jazz music

The 20's were when women took a stand for their rights by: - The famous five who were five females declaring if in the British North American Act the word "person" does mean females as well as men. If this is true women or "persons" should be allowed to vote.

PROHIBITION:

-between 1915-1917 all provinces except Quebec had a prohibition on the selling of 80%of alcohol. -the United States prohibition lasted from 1920-1933

MACKENZIE KING:

-he was elected for the Prime Minister of Canada in 1921 -from the liberal party -King-Byng affair: he was ecused of taking bribes from rum-runners who were smuggling alcohol into the U.S. King asks the Govenor General (Byng) to dissolve parliment. Byng refuses and shortly after King resigns from position

STOCKS MARKETS:

-more people afterthe war invested intothese stocks.

-more investments caused the stock market to "explode" with more people becoming rich by the day.
