The Pros and Cons of Antibiotics

Antibiotics can be lifesavers, but misuse has increased the number of drug-resistant germs. See how this affects you and what you can do to help prevent antibiotic resistance.

The Pros & Consof Antibiotics

* Bladder infections* Many wound and skin infections, such as staph infections* Severe sinus infections that last longer than 2 weeks* Some ear infections* Strep throat

Taking an antibiotic when you have a viral infection won't make you feel better — and can contribute to antibiotic resistance.

Types of Viral Infections

* Bronchitis* Colds* Flu (influenza)* Most coughs* Most ear infections* Most sore throats* Stomach flu

Types of Bacterial Infections

Antibotics have been added to soaps, cleaning supplies and wipes to help cut down on the amount of infections humans get.

Since the 1940s, antibiotics have been an essential component to saving countless lives and have offered a major line of defense against infectious diseases.

Many people experience adverse side effects from taking antibotics and sometimes cannot take them at all.

Antibiotics can taste good and can look like candy making kids take them when they should not.

Antibiotics are a chemical substance made to kill bacteria.

Recent medical discoveries have shown that Silver is a great addition to antibiotics. It stops the bacteria from forming bonds and slows down its metabolic rate.

Antibotics can kill the healthy bacteria in your intestines.

There are over 200 different types of antibiotics today used to treat all types of bacteria and more are being created every year.

In the Future

In 1928, in a lab at St. Marys hospital bacteriologist Alexander Fleming discovered that a substance in mold could be used to kill bacteria

In the future there is a very big chance that antibiotics will not work due to resistance. Some believe that that in the future scientist will have come up with a universal antibiotics able to out smart the bacteria and keep it from becoming resistant by changing to keep up with the bacteria as it changes and continue to fight.

What New Questions Arose?

~What are doctors doing to prevent the resistance of bacteria?~When should i really take antibiotics?~If bacteria can become resistant to antibiotics so quickly, why should I take them?

Alot of people feel antibiotics are not the answer and we need to go back to our roots and revisit the more herbal/ natural solutions to fighting bacteria.

Antibiotics are a great thing. To many people take this for granted. Antibiotics have saved millions of lives. Now people dont look at that, they dont care. Because of this antibiotics will most likely not be useful in the future. Hopefully there will be a new scientific breakthrough that will fix antibiotic resistance. However until then people need to watch what they take. Human and society will be greatly effected if antibiotics no longer work. In the future people may not have antibiotics but hopefully new medicine will be created or discovered.

Antibiotics are effective against bacterial infections, certain fungal infections and some kinds of parasites.
