The physics of skipping a water polo ball

The first step is to start egg-beating. Since the pressure below your feet is higher than above you are pushed upward.

Next is to pick up the ball and shoot. Point your free shoulder to where you want to shoot. Cradle the ball in a half circle.

Turn your body towards the goal and quickly snap your legss together to compress the water in between to get you to your highest elevation. Quickly throw the ball as hard as you can in front of the goal, letting it leave your fingers last to give it the most backspin.

The more backspin you put on the ball the higher it will bounce. This is becuase for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. The water will push back on the ball when it hits the surface.
