The only thing cool in the Philippines is itself!

These are some of the many Tagalog words. As you can see, Tagalog grasps some english. Did you know that Filipino is one of the 176 languages spoken in the Philippines? Another Fun Fact is that Filipino is the official language of the Philippines, not Tagalog. Also, the last fact is that about 57 million people speak Tagalog in the Philippines.

The carabao is the Philippines' national animal, because of their usefulness in transportation and farming.

The carabao is a swamp type of domestic water buffalo found in the Philippines. Also, in the Philippines, the carabao is used for meat, milk, and some draft. Another carabao fact is that this species helps Filipino farmers plow fields to make it easier for humans. Did you know that these normally gentle creatures have caused injuries, or even death? On the bright side of things, though, the carabao live in Guam, along with the Philippines.

The national flag of the Philippines is commonly known as Three Stars and a Sun. The Philippines' flag's three main colors, red, white, and blue, stand for peace, bravery, and unity. The flag of the Philippines is the only flag in the whole world that is displayed differently in times of peace and war. Another flag fact is that this flag was designed shortly after the Spanish-American war of 1898. Also, this flag was desinged by Emilio Aguinaldo, the first president of the Philippines.

The Philippines is 115,831 sqare miles on it's surface.

Tagalog is the Philippines' official language.

The Philippines' size is comparable to Italy. Also, the Philippines is made up of 7,100 islands, responsible for it's huge size. For another fact, California is actually larger than the Philippines. The Philippines size is also bigger than Spain and the United Kingdom. A country bigger than the Philippines is Japan, but by just a little bit.

The Philippines flag is similar to the American flag because of it's colors.

The Philippines is located in Southeast Asia, and is on the Pacific Ring of Fire and near the equator.

The Philippines is located and bordered by the Philippine Sea on it's east. On it's west, you can find the South China Sea. On it's north is the Luzon Strait, and on it's south is the Celebes Sea. Some of the countries that are near the Philippines are Taiwan, Brunei, and Hong Kong. Also, it's location on the Ring of Fire makes the Philippines prone to earthquakes and typhoons.

The Philippines has a wide selection of foods that varies from adobo to sisig.

One of the many dishes from the Philippines is sinigang, a spicy soup that is made by using pork or beef, tomatoes, onions, garlic, spinach, string beans, horse radishes, taro, green finger pepper, tamarind, fish sauce, and salt. Another dish from the Philippines is adobo, and is one of the most popular Filipino dishes. Lumpia is another Filipino dish that is from chinese orgin. Sisig is yet another Filipino dish and in Kapampangan means,"To snack on something sour". Pancit noodles were introduced to the Philippines by China and have since been adopted into local cuisine.

The Philippines' national flower is the Arabian jasmine in english, but in the Philippines, it is called sampaguita.

The Arabian Jasmine is a flowering shrub that is native to India. This shrub can actually grow up to 6 feet tall, and can grow up to a 2 to 3 foot spread. This flower is also an invasive weed. Sometimes, in rare instances, they can be slightly reddish. Another fact is that Arabian Jasmine can be made into tea and perfume.

The Philippines' capital is Manila.

Manila is the second largest city of the Philippines. It is also the most polluted city in the world. Manila is offically named the,"Republic of the Philippines,". Also, a festival celebrated in Manila is Maundy Thursday. One of Manila's greatest national resources is the harbor that it sits on.

The Philippines' nickname is Pearl of the Orient Seas.

Pearl of the Orient Seas is the Phililppines' nickname becuase of it's many natural wonders and resources. Juan J. Delado gave the Philippines it's nickname. In Tagalog, Filipinos call the Pearl of the Orient Seas,"Perlas ng Silanganan,". Also, Pearl of the Orient Seas is not the only nickname for the Philippines, because Gems of the East, Emerald Islands, Treasure Islands of the Pacific, Isles of Fear, Isles of Hope, Orphans of the Pacific, and Land of the Morning are all other nicknames that the Philippines has. In fact, these are just a few because some may argue that there could be more than a hundred different nicknames for the Philippines.
