About the author:

Movie trailer:

Charlie makes mixs tapes to give to Sam. One of his favorite songs is Asleep by The Smiths:

Each chapter is a letter Charlie writes to an anonymous person. His best friend shot himself and he is now starting High school known as the weird kid who was in the hostpital. He soon makes friends with two seniors, Patrick and his step sister Sam. Charlie is invited to his first party where he is intodruced to their friends and they all welcome him. Charlie soon realizes that he is in love with Sam but is too shy to make a move. He writes about his experiences with drugs and The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Throughout the book Charlie learns how to participate more and how to be "normal" again. When Sam leaves for College Charlie starts getting "bad" again and starts thinking about his dead Aunt Helen and realizes she had molested him when they would watch TV together. In result he goes back into hostpital. His friends visit him including Sam and Patrick. He writes that things are good with him "and even when they're not, they will be soon".

Theme is the lesson the author wants the reader to take with them after reading a novel/peice of writing. One theme in The Perks of Being a Wallflower is to enjoy the moment. In the book Charlie has a moment of true happiness where he express's that by saying he felt infinite. "And in that moment, I swear we were infinite."
