Causes-Sparta and the other city-states feared Athens' growing power and prosperity. Athens brcame the leader of the Delian League and became known as a supreme. Athens' naval power intimidated coastal city-states.
Effects-Sparta became the most powerful city-state after defeating Athens. Shortly after Sparta's victory, history repeated itself and the city-states started to resent Sparta. This caused a period of war and turmoil inside Greece that creates an opening for invaders.
The Peloponnesian War was between Athens, the Delian League and Sparta, the Peloponnesian League. The war lasted 27 years (431-404 BC).
