"Just don't forget that some of us watch the sunset too" Ch. 3 (Page 40)

Ponyboy Curtis, the main charater, is apart of a lower class gang called the greasers, due to their long hair and how greasy it is.  Pony is one of three brothers, the others Darry and Sodapop, who are now living by themselves due to their parents being killed in a car crash several monthes earlier.Pony, his brothers and their gang live in East Side of a small town Oklahoma and often get attacked by an upper class group called the Socials, Socs for short, who live on the West side of town. As a greaser one of the most important rules is to walk with another greaser or carry a switchblade, something Ponyboy wasn't doing as he walked home from watching a movie.  Before he knew a group of Socials had him surrounded and began to threaten to slit his neck and cut off his hair.   Then out of nowhere his two brothers came running toward him and the Socials ran away.  The next night Ponyboy, his Johnny, Two-Bit and Dallas Winston went to the drive in movie.  The sit near the front by two of the "Social" girls, who Dallas kept flirting and harassing until Johnny, who has never spoken up to Dallas since he was jumped by a Soc, told Dally to knock it off.  As Dally walked away Johnny and Pony sat next to the girls and found out why they were their alone.  On their way to Two-Bit's house the girl's boyfriends, Randy and Bob, drove by, at the time they were extremely drunk, and began to threaten the greasers.  The girls decided it would be best to go with Randy and Bob so the greasers won't get in a fight with Randy and Bob. Later that evening Ponyboy arrives home late and finds his brother Darry furiously waiting in his chair and Soda sprawled on the sofa asleep.  Darry begins to lecture Pony about how he never uses his head and how everyone was concerned about him.  Pony yells back at Darry, and Darry slaps him across the face.  Pony begins to run away to the parking lot where Johnny is asleep.  He tells Johnny that he wants to run away in to the back country, Johnny sleepily agrees.  They ran until they reach a safe distances away from their house and began to rest in a park, until a blue mustang pulled up.
