The Ocean

To separate the ocean into certain sections, scientists use salinity levels, temperture, and density of water to create different zones.

Salinity in water is the amount of minerals in the ocean water. It is measured in thousands, 0/00, and the average is 35 0/00. Most of the minerals is sodium chlorine, the rest is elements that came out of the earth's interior.

The density of the water usually depends on its level of salinity in it. The higher the amount, the denser and usually colder it is.

The temperture of water is also a factor to separtate the ocean into sections. Warmer water is closer to the surface because it is heated by the sunlight.
