The Moon and Tides
As you know, we have two high tides and two low tides in the 24 hour period of the day. Between a high tide and a low tide there is 12 hours and 25 minutes.
Did you know without our moon we wouldn't have the tides that we have today? Though the sun may help out with some of the tide pull the moon is the main factor on why we have tides.

The Earth and moon both have a barycenter, a point between two objects where they balance each other. This barycenter between the two are what also causes our tides. The "Tugging" as they both revlouates around each other, along with the suns graviational pull causes the earth to buldge, thus creating the tides.
Tides are the changes between ocean level due to the moons gravtaional pull.
