Throughout Philips childhood these two boys were often the ones to hurt Philip and call him monkeyface. The brush's father is also the nemesis to Philip's grandfather. But in the end carma got to them and they had to live the hard life.

Philip had to face many conflicts throughout the novel. Some include struggling with bullies because of his deformity, accepting the fact that he has been lied to his whole life about his family, competing with his "perfect brother" Michael and recovering from his accident and helping Michael through his. Though all this happened to Philip, he learned to turn it around and amplify the good to get his revenge and live a good life in the end.
