Story Summary:This narrative nonfiction is about the historical event that took place over 40 years ago. On July 16, 1969, the Saturn 5 rocket was launched. The United States had built the rocket and sent it into space. It was the largest rocket ever built. Michael Collins, Buzz Aldrin, and Neil Armstrong were the three astronauts in the spacecraft. They were on their way to the moon. Two of them would be the first ever to land on the moon. Michael Collins would stay aboard and fly the Spacecraft 107, also known as Apollo 11 or Columbia, while Buzz and Neil landed the lunar module on the surface of the moon. This story describes the experiences of these astronauts and focuses on the experience from Michael Collin's perspective.
