Wes Anderson

The Belafonte

Steve Zissou, the primary character of The Life Aquatic, is a marine documentarian who claims his best friend was eaten by an undiscovered species of Shark that he dubs the 'Jaguar Shark'

With a plan to exact revenge on a mythical shark that killed his partner, oceanographer Steve Zissou brings together a crew that includes his estranged wife, a journalist, and a man who may or may not be his son. Together they set forth through perilous obstactles including pirates, a helicopter and lack of funds, feeding Steve's plot for revenge as well as his newest documentary.

Edward "Ned" Plimpton, a polite Southern gentleman whose mother has recently died. He believes that Zissou is his father. After they meet at a film premiere, Ned takes a break from his job as an airline pilot in Kentucky to join Zissou's crew.

This film concludes with the bittersweet reuniting of Steve and the Jaguar Shark that kiled his best friend. Sitting in the crowded submarine, Steve and his crew marvel as the giant shark swims overhead. Steve then mutters mounfully "I wonder if it remembers me." As the people surrounding him place a comforting hand on his shoulder.
