The Knowledge Cycle

When are sources created?

The news media will continue to report on the event, except now they will bring in "experts." These experts tend to comment mostly on past events of a similar nature, so their commentary can be disconnected to the actual event.

Television and Internet sites report the basic facts of the event. Information is reported as event happens, so facts may not be accurate or verified. Public opinion is formed almost immediately.

Minutes

Focus begins to shift away from the event itself, and onto causes and possible outcomes of the event. This is almost always speculative, and is a reflection of the time and social norms more than of the event itself.

Professional academics and researchers begin researching, studying, and experimenting on various topics and aspects of the event. Hypothesis are shared and debated in professional journals.

As theories are proven and disproven, findings are published in books. Typically this information benefits from time and emotional distance, however books designed to commemorate aniversaries of events can be more emotional than logical.
