The massive 19 foot statue of Jefferson is five tons. It was desiged by a man named John Russel Pope. Alongside him, there are qoutes that he once said in his lifetime.

Thomas Jefferson was the third president of the United States. Therefore, Americans want to honor him by building a memorial about him because he helped our country in many ways.

Controversy
Many people didn't want to start the construction of the memorial because it caused a huge loss a Japanese cherry trees. However, they started construction and, they kept on going while World War Two was going on because we need to honor our third president.

The Memorial is located on the South Bank of the Tidal Basin.Construction started in 1939 and ended in 1943. Events such as memorial excersises, Easter sunrise events, and Cherry Blossom Festivals, have been taking place at the memorial.

The construction destroyed many Cherry Blossom trees. However, there are still Cherry Blossom trees surounding the area.
The huge statue attracts many visotors a year, and it is placed in the middle of the circular dome.
