Brief Biography
- Riis was in poverty himself and knew what others were going through- He also had more knowledge than most people because he was a police reporter- Wanted more people to be aware about the conditions of tenements in cities
- Because Riis helped his father with a newpaper, he had an idea of how to write -Riis decided to write his first book called How the Other Half Lives - After his book got more and mroe publicity, he wanted to show more, therefore taking pictures
