Our hero in The Hobbit is Bilbo Baggins. The reason Bilbo is so different is because he's a hobbit, not a human. He can turn invisible with a special ring he carries and can figure out if there are Orcs around by his sword, which glows blue when Orcs are near. Bilbo's role in the group of dwarves is to go inside the Lonely Mountain and retrieve the Arkenstone.
This is one of the magical items that Bilbo currently possesses. The ring makes him invisble when wearing it, and he can understand the speech of monsters. For example, when wearing it in the Dark Woods, he is able to understand the chattering, giant, spiders.
The Hobbit takes place in a magicalland called'Middle Earth'. In this land, Elves, Dwarves, Hobbits, monsters, Wizards, and many more creatures exsist.
Bilbo is tested when the dragon tells him the Arkenstone will drive Thorin mad. He then is conflicted on whether to take the gem or not.
The quest of Bilbo and the Dwarves, is to reclaim the Lonely Mountain which is currently occupied by the vicious dragonnamed Smaug.
They almost give up when they can't find the key hole to go into the mountain, because they had lost the last light of day. But Bilbo stays behind and finds the key hole by the light of the moon! 'The Last Light Of Day'
