The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

A Hitchhiker's Guide to the GalaxyBy: Douglas Adams

The book starts out with everyday normal human Arthur Dent. Arthur's house gets torn down, and making his day go even better, he finds out his friend Ford Prefect is an alien. This is actually good news since an alien race called the Vogons plan to destroy earth. Ford and Arthur hitch a ride with the Vogon cooks. It turned out that the Vogons did not like humans, so they threw them off the ship. Meanwhile Ford's semi-cousin Zaphod Beeblebrox and his companionTrillian steal the Heart of Gold spaceship. On the spaceship was a very depressed robot named Marvin. When Zaphod and Marvin use the Improbability Drive, they end up picking up Arthur and Ford on the way to the planet Magrathea. Magrathea is a planet that makes planets for rich people. When they arrive, they find this guy named Slartibartfast who tells Arthur the truth about Earth. He tells him that the answer to life is 42 and that Earth was a big computer figuring that out. They just do not know what it answers. But it seems that they are pretty sure they will find out if they eat Arthur's brain.

The theme of this book is what i like to call, humorous adventure. The reason i call it this is because it is an overall humurous book and it is one big adventure. The adventure part of the book is them trying to steal the Heart of Gold ship and get to Margathea. This is a line that I thought was humerous 'If there is anything other than my ego around, i want it caught and shot now.'

The Main Character in this story are Ford Prefect and Arthur Dent. Arthur is a human while Ford is an alien. Zaphod Beeblebrox and Marvin appear later in the book. Zaphod is Ford's semi-cousin and Marvin is a depressed robot they find on the Heart of Gold ship.

There are multiple settings in this book all of them are in outer space. A few of these include Earth, Magrathea, the Vogon ship, and the Heart of Gold ship.

I recommend this book to anyone you enjoys a weird and quirky kind of humor. I would also recommend this book to all those sci-fi lovers out there. Personally I would rate this book an 8/10 or an 8.5/10.
