Hardships: Some of the the Native American tribes moved west on the trail of tears. The trail of tears was a long sorrowful trail that the settlers made the Native Americans travel on when the Native Americans went west. The Cherokee was the main tribe on the trail from the Eastern U.S. to the Midwest.
Background Information: The Plains Native Americans settled in the Great Plains area around 12,000 to 20,000 years ago. They followed the bison around the great plains. The Native Americans were pushed out of their original homes in the east and pushed into the western areas such as the great plains. There were about 25 to 30 total Native American tribes in the Great plains, some of the ones in Kansas were the Kansa, Shawnee, Wichita, and the Osage tribes.
The history of Native Americans
The largest Plains Native American tribe was the Sioux Tribe.
"Hear me, My chiefs! I am tired. My heart is sick and sad. From where the sun now stands, I will fight no more forever!" (Chief Joseph)
