There is no person in our country who hasn’t heard this world-famous surname: Demidov. Everybody knows that this name goes back to our history of Peter’s the Great times. They lead the glamorous story of their dynasty from the name of Nikita Demidovich Antufiev, a blacksmith of Tula. Later Antufiev got the noble rank for his great services to the country; his name transformed into Nikita Demidov and became the synonym of the Urals industry, honesty, quality and wealth.
The Demidov’s dynasty closely connected with such great places as Moscow, Tula, Nizhniy Tagil, Yaroslavl, Barnaul, Italy and, of course, Saint Petersburg. Starting from the name of Nikita Demidovich and going on with his great grandsons Nikolay and Pavel, who carried on the traditions of the family, they are indivisible.

The history of the talented Brullov family began in 1733 when George Brulleau came to St.Petersburg and worked at Imperial Porcelain Factory. His grandson, Paul Brullov, took part in creating of picturesque parks of Peterhof. George Brulleau's great grandsons Alexander Brullov, an architect, and Karl Brullov, an artist, became famous not only in Russia but also abroad. Deu to different talents of the Brullov Family, St.Petersburg became one of the greatest cities of the world. So the history of the family turned into the history of the whole nation.

"THE ELISEEV FAMILY"
The ancestor of the famous merchant family was Peter Eliseev , a peasant from the village Novoselka in Yaroslavskaya province. He was a gardener of Sheremetev. According to a family legend, Peter grew strawberries on Christmas Eve 1812 and served them up to dinner. Sheremetev and his guests were very surprised. The count promised to fulfill his cherished wish. Peter asked for freedom.
In 1813 Peter Eliseev, his wife and three sons moved to Saint-Petersburg. First Peter sold tropical fruit in the streets. In 1821 he rent a bonded ware house and three years later his first grocery and provision shop was opened at Birzhevaya Line.
After Peter’s death his wife and their sons Sergey Petrovich, Grigory Petrovich and Stepan Petrovich ran a business. In 1843 Stepan Petrovich and Grigory Petrovich founded their own firm “ Eliseev Brothers”. In 1850s the firm became famous not only in Russia but in the whole world. In 1874 the merchants had the right to represent the national emblem on their signboards, labels and trade-marks.
In 1904 the central grocery was built by architect Baranovsky. There was an auditorium with 480 seats in it. Now it is Saint Petersburg Comedy Theatre at 56 Nevsky Prospect. All in all there were 7 shops in Saint-Petersburg.
The Eliseevs were famous for their charity. They were trustees for schools, colleges and hospitals. They founded their own school for poor girls. Grigory Eliseev was decorated with an orden of Saint Vladimir for his financial help Pokrovskaya Hospital.
Grygory Grygoryevich told that Eliseevs’ distinguishing feature was selfless devotion to Christian faith, selfless service to the Russian Tzar and their motherland.
