Roman Gods:Jupiter- King of the gods ------------------------------->Juno- Queen of the godsMars- God of warNeptune- God of the seaPluto- God of deathApollo- God of sunVenus- Goddess of loveGods and goddesses in Rome were very similar to the ones in Greece, except Roman gods were more war-like gods.

Romulus and Remus:They were two twin brothers that were stranded near the Tiber River. They were first nursed and taken care of a wolf named Luprica, but they were found and raised by a shepherd and his wife. They were fierce warriors who never lost in a fight and decided to start there own kingdom. Remus made fun of the wall that Romulus built and Romulus quickly took a shovel and beat him to death. He named his kingdom after himself and named it Rome.

The First Punic War:Both the Carthage and Rome wanted to control the island of Sicily, and in 264 B.C. the dispute led to war. It started when Rome sent an army to Sicily to stop the Carthaginian takeover, but the Carthaginians were determined to stop the invasion and had already set up colonies on the island. Rome realized that they couldn't defeat the Carthage without a navy, and they quickly built a large fleet of ships and met their enemy at sea. This war dragged on for more than 20 years, but Rome finally defeated Carthage's navy off the coast of Sicily. The Carthaginians had to pay a huge fine to the Romans and the island went under Roman rule.

Cincinnatus:He was the best-known early Roman dictator who became a dictator when a powerful enemy surrounded a Roman army. He left his farm and gathered his army. He quickly defeated the enemy in short order and returned to Rome in triumph.Although he could've continued ruling, he didn't want power. After doing his duty, he returned to his farm and gave up his dictatorship.

Romulus and Remus once fought a bear with their bare hands!
