THE EXCRETORY SYSTEM

What is Excretion?Excretion is the process where humans rid their waste products and the by products of metabolism. It's also the process of the body maintaining an equilibrium between inorganic ions and water.

Filtration and ReabsorptionFiltration is where the blood is filtered through and whatever goes through, is considered waste. Filtration takes place first, then reabsorption. The liquid that goes through filtration still has necessary nutrients in it, so they’re absorbed back into the blood and not filtered out. Filtration filters out the good stuff, while reabsorption takes back in the good stuff from the liquid waste.

The NephronThe nephron is the tiny filtering structures in your kidneys. They help clean your blood. There are two parts to the nephron, the glomerulus and the tubule. The glomerulus lets fluid and waste products through, but not blood and molecules from passing through. The fluid then passes through the tubule and it sends needed minerals back to the blood and removes waste. The product of this process, is urine.

The KidneyThe kidney is made up of many parts. The renal capsule is like a membrane to the kidney. The renal pelvis collects the urine from the nephrons. The nephron are the filtration units in the kidneys. The ureter collects urine and takes it to the bladder. The renal artery brings the blood into the kidney for filtration. The kidney takes in the blood from the stream, and flows it through the nephrons, the waste products come out and are now urine. The rest of the blood is released back into the stream. 1300 mL of blood enters the kidneys, at a time, 1299 mL leave the kidney and 1 mL leaves as urine. The nephron is the tiny filtering structures in your kidneys. The Skin, Kidneys, Lungs and LiverThe skin regulates the body’s temperature. Sweating allows one’s body to keep itself at a good body temperature, which helps it maintain homeostasis which is good for the excretory system. Kidneys filter and return most of the solutes and water to the blood, they keep out the waste. Kidneys have a lot of blood flowing through them at once. The lungs get rid of built up carbon dioxide in your body. If it didn’t escape, it would cause major difficulties in your body. The liver also removes waste products, it takes out the iron, which is good for red blood cells, and it store vitamins.
