ESTABLISHMENT AND CLASSIFICATION:The Everglades is a national landmark and it was established as a national park by Congress in 1934.

CLIMATE:The average rainfall in the Everglades is 60in each year and the rainy season is June-October. In the Everglades, the climate is mild and pleasnt from December-April with rare cold fronts. The average temperature in winter is 53F to 77F while it's summers are around 90F. Also, the summers during the Everglades are hot with over 90% humidity.

CHANGES OVER TIME: A century ago, when the Everglades were twice their size, the Florida population was increasing and the Governer, Napoleon, drained the Everglades to make more room. Though today, the park is legally protected.

AFFET HUMANS: During the rainy season, many mosquitos buzz around the Everglades. They are also abundant when it has just rained, or if the Everglades are humid. If you are visiting the Everglades, bring bugspray and umbrellas, not to mention wear light clothes due to the high temperatures.

SIGNIFIGANCE: The Everglades is one of the most diverse ecosystems in the world. It's home to many animals and is known as a Wetland of International Importance and a World Heritage Site.

WHY PEOPLE SHOULD VISIT: The Everglades, though protected, face many water problems. Irrigation canals and road disrupt the natural flow of water from Lake Okeechobee and the drainbage of land for development also has had negative effects on the Everglades. But the Everglades are beautiful and pure wildlife, something you dont see everyday! People need to go see the beautiful nature of the everglades while they still can before the human-created problems disturb the natural balance anymore!

ENVIROMENT: The Everglades is a hot, humid, and boggy habitat that stretches over 1.5 millions acres. The Everglades are made up of tracks of wet, spongy land with a variety of vegetation and animal species.

LOCATION: The Everglades is a one hour drive from Miami, Florida and can be entered at the Gulf Coast Visitor Center, which is south of Everglades City. The Everglades National Park is also located in the Southeast region of the United States.

PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS: The Everglades is mostly made up of marches and wetlands, as well as praries and of course, its large river that is as wide as 60miles. It is 1.5 million acres and is classified as one of the biggest wet lands in the world.
