He created Euclidian geometry, and this was considered the only type of geometry until the mid-nineteenth century. Mathematicians challenged Euclid's strictly logical set of rules known as axioms. They also challenged that it was the only form of geometry.

The Elements
Euclid began The Elements with accepted mathematical truths known as axioms and postulates. Included is the Pythagorean Theorem, one of the most well known Geometrical theorems. Once The Elements was published it became the standard geometry and has had a greater influence on scientific thinking than any other work.
