Throughout history gold was one of the first metals to be worked. Gold was mostly found as nugguts or as particles in the beds of streams. During 2000 BC the Egyptian mined gold. Minting gold coins started around 640 BC in the Kingdom of Lydia and the first pure gold coins were made in King Croesus, who ruled from 561-547 BC.
