What happens in your body: Alcohol is absorbed into the bloodstream through the walls of the stomach and small intestine. Within minutes, the alcohol travels to the brain and the liver, slowing down nerve cells in the brain. The rest of the alcohol is transported to the liver, where it is converted to a non-toxic substance. However, when too much is consumed the liver can't convert fast enough and the alcohol starts to circulate the body.
