Fact #4: Out of the 40,000 men who served on U-boats during WWII, only 10,000 returned.

The Diary of Anne Frank By: Madeline Farmer

Fact #3: Max Heiliger was the fictitious name the SS used to establish a bank account in which they deposited money, gold, and jewels taken from European Jews.

Fact #1: It is estimated that 1.5 million children died during the Holocaust. Approximately 1.2 million of them were Jewish and tens of thousands were Gypsies.

Fact #2: Between 1939 and 1945, the Allies dropped 3.4 million tons of bombs, which averaged to 27,700 tons per month.

Fact #5: Dr. Josef Mengele (the “Angel of Death”) used about 3,000 twins, mostly Romany and Jewish children, for his painful genetic experiments. Only about 200 survived. His experiments included taking one twin’s eyeball and attaching it on the back of the other twin’s head or changing the eye color of children by injecting dye. In one instance, two Romany twins were sewn together in an attempt to create conjoined twins.

Journal Entry #1If I had to hide someone, I probaly would because that person is not a criminal. They are just being killed for no reason, which I don't believe is fair. Therefore, I would hide them in a place where noo one thinks to look. I would hide them under my house and put flowers and plants to cover the door that way if you are just looking at the house, you would hav know way of knowing there are people behind that door.

Journal Entry #2If I had to go into hiding I would occupy my time, by reading, drawing, and sleeping. I could also spend my time learning to sew or making clothes. If I had to go into hiding I would probaly start a diary like Anne did. In my diary, I would put everything I did, so it could be a book one day. I would make sure to include all the sights and sounds especially if it is during wartime. I would try to be extra quiet no matter what I did.

Theme:I believe the theme is isolation because Anne is scared, she is hiding in the Secret Annex. She has to keep most of her feelings to herself because she cant talk during the day or she runs th risk of getting caught during the day with the workers below her. Although she is sharing isolation with her family, they are all cut off from the outside world that is at war.

Meet the Franks -The roots of the family of Anne Frank can be traced back to the Judengasse (Jews' lane) in Frankfurt am Main. -Otto and Edith Frank's older daughter, Margot, was born in 1926 and their younger daughter, Anne, was born in 1929.-After Anne Frank's 16-year-old sister Margot received a written summons on July 5, 1942 to prepare for transport to a German labour camp, her father Otto decided that it was high time to move into the hiding place he had prepared a year earlier in the rear annex of the Opekta-Werke building at Prinsengracht 263 in Amsterdam.
