Other than bringing convicts to Australia, the Europeans brought in 2 years supply of Western food such as flour, sugar and processed meat. . The animals included sheep, pigs, dogs, cats, goats, turkeys, geese, ducks, chickens, pigeons, horses, and cattle. Plants and seeds included coffee, cocoa, cotton, bananas, oranges, lemons, tamarinds, guava, prickly pear, eugenia or pomme rose, jalap, ipecacuanha, figs, bamboo, sugar cane, vines, quinces, apples, pears, strawberries, oaks, myrtles, rice, wheat, barley, and maize.

.Our eating habits were influenced by the British settlers. By the 1850's a huge influx of immigrants from Asia, Europe and America came in search of a fortune. Along with them, they brought a whole new world of food and cooking techniques. Chinese introduced us to stir frying with bright coloured vegetables, the Germans showed us stews and the Italians brought us the spagetti bolangnese and pizza.

Now there was more food to cook on barbeques. Including things like sausages, chops, chicken, quail and various mariented meats that could be skwered and cooked. Wine became the more favoured beverage over ginger beer and pumpkin soup was the most commonly sold at restaurants.

The Wall Street Stock Market Crash put people around the world in devastation. Exports fell, unemployment figures rapidly rose and local industries came to a halt. With no income coming many more people went hungry. Bread and dipping became a staple, newborns were fed diluted condensed milk and if lucky toddlers ate arrowroot biscuits. Rabbit became valuable even though it was a pest because you could make money off the fur and eat the meat. This was the only option for poor familes. Many people tried to grow their own food, used jars, preserved any leftovers an stored it. Woman developed recipes that were affordable and make a small amount of food go a long way.

After WW2, Australia embarked on a massive immigration programs. Millions of migrants came from Asia, Europe and the Middle East bringing their own food cultures. Immigrants from Italy and Greece brought their Meditarrean diet. Australians began to start eating their meat pies with American tomato sauce. Ginger beer also became very popular

The aborginals were smart and lived off the land. They were hunters and gathers who foraged for uncultivated plants and hunted wild animals. Their diet included food like kangaroo, emu, camel, wallaby, reptile meat, berries, seeds, plants, insects, damper and water. Their diet was rich in carbohydrates, protein, nutrients and low in fats and sugars.
