The Dalai Lama

The Dalai Lama was born Lhamo Thondup on July 6, 1935 in Taktser, China. At age 15, he assumed political power of Tibet as the Dalai Lama. The People's Republic of China invaded that same year. Fearing assassination, he and thousands of followers fled to Dharamsala in northern India, where they established an alternative government. Since then, the Dalai Lama has taken numerous actions in hopes of establishing an autonomous Tibetan state within the People's Republic of China. However the Chinese government has shown no signs of moving toward peace and reconciliation with Tibet. The Dalai Lama has also conducted hundreds of conferences, lectures and workshops worldwide, as part of his humanitarian efforts. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989, followed by many more awards.

Congressional gold medal.

The Dalai Lama has made many speeches in his lifetime. Some standing up for basic rights, receiving awards and presenting others. But never once has he just thought of himself, instead he always speaks for the Tibetan people. As mentioned when receiving the Congressional Gold Medal "This recognition will bring tremendous joy and encouragement to the Tibetan people, for whom I have a special responsibility. Their welfare is my constant motivation and I always consider myself as their free spokesperson."

The Dalai Lama.

Dalai Lama, Tibet's political leader has strived to make Tibet an independent and democratic state from China. He and his followers are exiled to India.

~~“My religion is very simple. My religion is kindness.”

His compelling ways of engaging into the public and his humble approach towards the topic he talks about has everyone listening. “His joy and happiness is intoxicating in person, and his message of compassion is compelling and can be life altering. The thing that surprised me about his public lectures is how accessible he is compared to other world figures of his calibre” stated Morgan Norman. Also as Morgan mentioned, he doesn’t believe he is above anyone in this world as he says "I’m just a simple monk". In my eyes that quotation says a lot about who he is.

Approach

~~"Do not avoid the responsibility for your actions."
