The coriolis effect

The Coriolis Effect

Things affected by the Coriolis Effect

The Coriolis effect is a product of how the earth rotates. It is the deflection of an object as it moves over the earth's surface.

The most well known manifestation of the coriolis effect is on hurricane, when they rotate in opposite directions in the two hemispheres. The coriolis effect occurs because the earth is rotating beneath these objects as they move through the atmosphere.

Planes

The well known claim that water circulates the drain in opposite directions in the two hemispheres is actually false, as the coriolis effect is to slight to be exhibited on such a small scale
