The Color Wheel

The Color Wheel

The color wheel is a tool that illustrates how colors are organized, blended and used. It's based on red, yellow and blue, and is traditional in the field of art. Sir Isaac Newton developed the first circular diagram of colors in 1666. Since then, scientists and artists have studied and designed numerous variations of this concept.

In a dark room, Newton placed a prism in front of a thin beam of light, and created a rainbow of colors. To illustrate this, he created a color wheel.

These are the Primary colors: red, yellow and blue.

These are the Secondary colors. They are formed by mixing the primary colors.

These are the Tertiary colors. They are formed by mixing a primary and a secondary color.
