The Civil Rights Movement was a time period when African Americans in the United States fought and protested for equal rights. White people were looked at as a superior race and blacks weren't allowed to eat with them or even go to the same schools as them. Some great civil rights leaders are Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X, Jesse Jackson, Coretta Scott King,Rosa Parks, and many more. African Americas fought for their equal rights after slavery because once slavery was over that is when segregation began.
