The Monroe Doctrine:was a U.S. foreign policy regarding domination of the American continent in 1823. It stated that further efforts by European nations to colonize land or interfere with states in North or South America would be viewed as acts of aggression, requiring U.S. intervention. In my own words: The Monroe Doctrine was a policy issued to halt the European's efforts in colonizing land in North or South America and also to recognize any action as an act of aggresion that would require the U.S to intervene,

Platt Amendmentstipulated seven conditions for the withdrawal of United States troops remaining in Cuba at the end of the Spanish–American War, and an eighth condition that Cuba sign a treaty accepting these seven conditions. It defined the terms of Cuban–U.S. relations to essentially be an unequal one of U.S. dominance over Cuba.IN MY OWN WORDS: The Platt Amendment was used to maintain control over Cuban territory secretly, Although, Cubains knew what was going on. The U.S gave the Cubans restrictiing conditions that limited their sovereignty/independence. In the end the Platt Amend, was ratified in 1901 and remained until 1934, when the amendment was cancled both sides agreed it was a bad idea.
