The Townshend ActsJune 19, 1767The Townshend Acts increased taxes on household items. This angered the colonial population. British troops moved in to keep order.

The Boston Massacre was a street fight between a crowd of about 50 patriots and British soldiers led by Captain Thomas Preston. The patriots threw snowballs, stones, and sticks at the soldiers. The squad fired shots into the mob and killed 5 colonists. This event inspired many to give speeches that would inspire the revolution.

The Trial of Captain Preston

The Boston Massacre led to the trials of Captain Thomas Preston and the British Soldiers involved. The British Royal Governor ordered the immediate evacuation of British troops from Boston.
