Summary In the novel, The Book Thief by Markus Zusak, a yound girl named Liesel is adopted by her new foster parents Hans and Rosa Hubermann in 1939 Nazi Germany. She quickly becomes very close with Hans, who she calls Papa. He tought her how to read and write in midnight sesions using books that she has stolen from various places. Liesel befriends the young boy named Rudy next door. Liesel must keep a very big secret from him everyone else. Her family is hiding a Jew named Max in their basement. When Max leaves Liesel still haas to face many problems involving the war. A few years later, when Liesel sees Max being marched down the street to a concentration camp, she begins to question he love for books and words.

Liesel Meminger Liesel Meminger was a young girl that lived in Nazi Germany. She loved word and books so much that she stole them when ever she had the chance. She was besst friends with her neighbor Rudy and the Jew in her basemnet, Max. She loved her father, Hans, and loved to learn reading and writing from him. Liesel would read books in the Mayor's wife's library and books that she stole from different places. She read the same few books over and over and never be tired of them. As you can see Liesel meninger is a very interesting young girl.

Hans Hubermann Hans Hubermann adopted Liesel when she was only 10 years old. He is married to Rosa Hubermann and together they raised Liesel. Hans tought her how to read and writed inthe basement late at night. he is a skilled accordion player and although he is later accepted into the Nazi Party, does not agree with Hitler and his statements. Hans keeps a promise with an old friend and takes a Jewish Fistfighter named Max in and hides him in the basement. It is quite clear that Hans Hubermann is a great person and father for Liesel.

Setting The Book Thief takes place in Nazi Germany in January 1939 to October 1943. Liesel and her friends and Family live on Himmel Street in Munich.

Climax I think that the Climax was when Liesel saw Max walking to Dachau with the other Jewish prisoners. Liesel takes a whipping for him but she knows that he is still alive. He comes back later in the epiloge after liberation to say hello to Liesel.

Personal Thoughts I thought that this was an amazing story to in an amzing way. The figurative language was incredible and the story was beautiful and sad at the same time. I couldn't put this book down because I was hooked. I highly recommend this story to an older audience but make sure you have tissues before you start!
